This is the back of a one pound banknote, issued by the Commercial Bank of Scotland on 2 January 1923.

The seated female figure in the centre of the note is surrounded by the text, 'Incorporated by Royal Charter & Act of Parliament'.

The Commercial Bank of Scotland opened in Edinburgh in 1810. Promoted by businessmen as an independent national bank, it became famous for the technical and artistic quality of its banknotes, as well as its many note design changes.
