Banknote (back), One pound, issued by Royal Bank of Scotland

This is the back of a one pound banknote issued by the Royal Bank of Scotland on 3 January 1938.

The back illustrates the head office in Edinburgh on the left and the chief office in Glasgow on the right.

In the late 19th century the Royal Bank of Scotland began absorbing other banks and forming branches. In the 20th century it even acquired various English banks. In 1969 it merged with Scotland's largest bank, the National Commercial Bank of Scotland Ltd.
