Banknote (back), Five pounds, issued by Caldeonian Banking Company

This is the back of a five pound banknote issued by the Caledonian Banking Company on 1 October 1859. The note was printed using steel plates engraved by W H Lizars of Edinburgh.

The back incorporates the arms of some of the towns in which the bank had branches.

In 1907 the Caledonian Banking Company, with its 34 branches, was absorbed by the Bank of Scotland.
