This is the three of clubs, one of a pack of 53 playing cards engraved in 1691 by Walter Scott, an Edinburgh goldsmith. The cards show the royal arms and arms of the Scottish nobility who sat in Parliament.

The arms of the Scottish Lords depicted on this card are Ross, Sandilands, Lindsay and Lesly.

A pack of heraldic cards entitled, 'Arms of the English Peers' was made in 1677 with at least three further editions produced thereafter. This Scottish pack takes a similar format to the English pack but with fewer coats-of-arms.
