This is the one of diamonds, one of a pack of 53 playing cards engraved in 1691 by Walter Scott, an Edinburgh goldsmith. The cards show the royal arms and arms of the Scottish nobility who sat in Parliament.

The arms of four Scottish Lords appear on this card. The lower value cards in the pack are 'Lords'.

A pack of heraldic cards entitled, 'Arms of the English Peers' was made in 1677 with at least three further editions produced thereafter. This Scottish pack takes a similar format to the English pack but has fewer coats-of-arms.
