This silver locket (pictured here open) commemorates Charles I. It dates from around 1650.
The inside of the locket contains on one face a badge of Charles I, on the other the letters 'CR' (for 'Carolus Rex') crowned.
Many pieces of jewellery commemorate the later Stewart monarchs, particularly after the execution of Charles I in 1649. The pieces were worn by supporters of the Scottish dynasty and handed down through their families into the 18th century.
