This gold and enamel ring is known as the 'Four Peers' ring. It commemorates the four Jacobite lords - Kilmarnock, Derwentwater, Balmerino and Lovat - who were executed in 1746 and 1747 for their part in the Jacobite rising of 1745.

The shank of the ring is two entwined ropes with enamelled inscription 'FT AB TD TS DM JD ...30 July 1746' and 'JN...'.

A family tradition says that these rings were made by the Edinburgh goldsmith, Ebenezer Oliphant, who made Prince Charles's silver travelling canteen.
