Back of a gold mourning ring

This is the back of a gold mourning ring commemorating Jane Falla who died on 29 January 1810, aged 76.

The back of the ring is inscribed 'Jane Falla/Ob. 29 Jan 1810/aet 76'.

At funerals in the 18th and 19th century, wealthier families distributed rings and lockets made from the hair of the deceased, or engraved with the name and date.
