Teaspoon (back)

This is the back of a silver teaspoon made by Robert Gordon of Madras in India. It is stamped with the maker's initials, 'RG'.

Silver teaspoon with an egg-shaped bowl and an Old English stem, by Robert Gordon, Madras

Scotland not only provided India with soldiers and colonial administrators. With restricted opportunities at home, aspiring craftsmen found it necessary to expand their horizons. Many Scottish silversmiths in India came from Aberdeen.
