Coin (Obverse), half dollar, from reign of Charles II

This is the obverse of a silver half dollar minted in Edinburgh in 1681, during the reign of Charles II. The coin was worth 26 shillings and eight pence Scots.

The obverse bears a laureate portrait with the letter 'F' below. The Latin inscription translates as: 'Charles II, by the Grace of God '.

The 'F' on the obverse is the initial of Sir John Falconer, Master of the Mint at this time.
