Add to album

This is the obverse of a silver dollar minted in Edinburgh in 1679, during the reign of Charles II. The coin was worth 53 shillings and four pence Scots.

The obverse bears a laureate portrait of the king with the letter 'F' below. The Latin inscription translates as: 'Charles II, by the Grace of God '.

The 'F' on the obverse is the initial of Sir John Falconer, Master of the Mint at this time.
