Medal (Reverse) of the Ross-shire Rifle Association

This is the reverse of a silver medal of the Ross-Shire Rifle Association. Made in Edinburgh by Peter Westren, the medal was presented in 1887 to the winner of the Ladies Challenge Cup.

The reverse is blank, apart from the maker's mark.

The sport of rifle shooting grew in popularity after 1860. Almost exclusively confined to the middle classes, it was one of the few sports in which women participated.
