Silver medal (reverse) of Montrose Academy, Angus

This is the reverse of a silver medal of Montrose Academy in Angus. It was presented by the local magistrate on behalf of Sir James Duke M.P. to George Soutar for Greek in the session 1881-2.

The inscription states that Sir James Duke M.P. annually presents, by the magistrate of Montrose, a medal to the two most distinguished scholars of his native town 'to reward their merit and to stimulate them to an active upright course of life'.
