Medal (reverse), of Edinburgh Skating Society

This is the reverse of a silver medal of the Edinburgh Skating Society. The medal was presented to James Home in 1792.

The reverse is inscribed with a pair of crossed skates.

In the Middle Ages skates were made with bone runners, but the introduction of metal ones from Holland made it a more attractive sport.
