Trade token (reverse), of Alloa Colliery, Clackmannanshire

This is the reverse of a copper five shilling trade token of Alloa Colliery in Clackmannanshire. Originally a Mexican 8 real coin of 1794, the coin was counter-stamped and reissued as a token.

Trade token of Alloa Colliery, countermarked on a copper counterfeit of a Mexico 8 real of 1794

To make up for the shortage of official coinage, foreign coins were counter-stamped and reissued.
