Medal (reverse), presented to W B Dickson at Inchkeith Highland Games

This is the reverse of a silver medal presented to W B Dickson in 1828 for the 'Hop, Step and Jump' event at Inchkeith Highland Games.

The reverse is inscribed, 'Prize For Hop Step & Jump, Gained by W.B. Dickson Esqr. At the Competition on Inchkeith 12 July 1828'.

In the 1820s athletics and gymnastics became popular, and at the same time the centuries-old tradition of holding Highland Games was reshaped and encouraged by enthusiasts of Celtic culture.
