Medal (reverse), commemorating David Livingstone

This is the reverse of an 1895 bronze medal commemorating David Livingstone.

The reverse, which is signed 'Allan Lyon', depicts a robed orator in front of an altar preaching to a group of people.

Livingstone became a hero through travelling and writing about Africa. His book, 'Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa (1857) was greatly praised. His legacy seems to be what he represented to British people - a pioneer with a just mission.
