Silver coffee pot
Add to album

This silver coffee pot dates from between around 1896 and 1906. Made in India, it forms part of a tea and coffee service presented to the Reverend Robert Dewar in 1906 on the occasion of his retirement from the United Free Church in Calcutta.

The coffee pot is elaborately decorated with friezes of Hindu deities. The lid has a handle formed from a figure sitting astride an elephant.

By the 19th century Scots had risen to prominence in a range of professions in India including medicine, engineering and education.
