Painting, of German prisoner of war

This watercolour of a German prisoner of war was painted by Ian Eadie, an artist who was called up for war service in 1940. Eadie served with the 51st (Highland) Division until the end of the war, recording his experiences in drawings and paintings.

Framed and glazed watercolour painting entitled "Prisoner of War lance Corporal, 155 Panzer Division, (Adolf Hitler Bodyguard)" by Ian Eadie, signed and dated 23 July 1944

The prisoner was a corporal with an elite Nazi unit, Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (the 1st SS Panzer Division Adolf Hitler Bodyguard). He was captured by the 51st Highland Division in 1944.
