Dish

This maiolica dish was made in Castelli in Italy between 1650 and 1673. It was painted by Francesco Grue.

The dish is painted in polychrome with a military scene, possibly from the campaigns of Alexander the Great. Two commanders in classical armour stand in discussion, with cavalry and massed infantry behind. There is a border of trophies.
