Dish

This maiolica dish was made at Deruta in Italy between around 1510 and 1540.

The dish is painted with a portrait of Roman general, Scipio Africanus, wearing an ornate classical helmet which has an eagle's beak for a visor. There are repeated imbricated and floral designs on the border. The scrolling banner is inscribed 'SEPI ONEAFRICO'.
