Panel

This maiolica panel was made in Italy, probably in Siena, around 1730. It was painted by Bartolomeo Terchi.

The panel is painted in polychrome with the 'Rape of Europa'. In the middle ground, a naked Europa with billowing drapery lies on the back of the bull holding its horn, escorted by a putto astride a dolphin to the right, and by a triton to the left.
