Inkwell, in form of German U-Boat

This silver inkwell in the form of a German submarine (U-Boat) was presented by two British oil companies to Captain J.D. Jackson of the oil tanker SS San Molito to thank him for his skill in preventing the vessel from being sunk by enemy attack in the North Atlantic in August 1915.

The inscription records that the tanker was shelled for 40 minutes before escaping from the attacking German U-Boat.
