Hansom cab
Add to album

This horse-drawn hansom cab was built around 1890 by Beattie & Thomson, Bodybuilders of Glasgow. It was almost certainly used by Hall and Co of Edinburgh as a taxi. When Halls moved onto motor vehicles, they sold their stables to St Cuthbert's Cooperative. It is likely that this cab was left at the stables at that time.

The cab has two wheels and fixed shafts for a single horse. It has seating for two in the enclosed cab with a driver in the open seat, above and to the rear. It is finished in varnished wood and brown painted metalwork. A transfer on the rear of the body is inscribed 'BEATTIE & THOMSON, BODY BUILDERS, 27 ANSON ST, GLASGOW SE, PHONE BRIDGETON 1296'.
