Charmstone

This smooth perforated stone was found at Grange of Lindores in Fife. It is thought to have been used as a charm in the 18th or 19th century. It was probably strung on a string in a building or on a doorpost and used as a healing stone to ward off evil spirits.

Perforated stones were regarding as special and as giving some power of divination.
