This is a page from a manuscript of 'Kalila wa Dimna' [The Fables of Bidpai], made at Shiraz in Iran in the 16th century. The Persian writing is executed in a distinctive cursive style known as nasta'liq.

The page has a painting at the base depicting the Lion presiding over a council of foxes.
