Fashion plate, from La Nouvelle Mode

This fashion plate is from La Nouvelle Mode, a weekly fashion journal published in Paris. Dated 1910, the plate is one in a collection of plates from the journal, compiled in a book entitled 'Book of Fashion Plates from La Nouvelle Mode: Fashions 1908-1911'.

The plate is numbered 48. Its French title could translate as 'A fashionable stroke of inspiration'.

Colour-printed fashion plates began to appear by the late 1880s. By the end of the 19th century, they had almost superseded hand-coloured plates. A few publications continued to issue hand-coloured plates into the early years of the 20th century.
