Model, of clipper
Add to album

A clipper is a fast sailing ship, characterised in the mid 19th century by a three-masted square rig. This small wooden model represents a typical clipper from around 1880.

The model was built to a scale of 1:288 by Mr James Gray of Edinburgh.

The name clipper probably comes from the American expression 'to move at a fast clip' and was first used to describe topsail schooners from Baltimore around 1825.
