Model, of merchant ship Jessie

This wooden model represents the small full-rigged merchant ship 'Jessie' which dates from around 1870. It was made by Mr Monro, captain of the vessel.

The model is built to a scale of 1:96. It has a solid hull, three masts and three yards (spars to carry sails) on each mast.

Although steam-powered ships were well-established by 1875, many sailing ships were still in service. This vessel would have carried general mixed cargoes.
