Seal impression (cast)

This is a 19th century sulphur cast of a seal impression. The impression was made from the 3rd seal of Trinity College Church in Edinburgh, dating from the late 16th century.

The seal depicts a church over a shield. The inscription 'S. ECCLIA : COLLEGIATA. SANCT TRINITATIS PROPE. EDINBVRG' identifies the church. The gold border is modern cardboard trim.

Trinity College Church was founded by Mary of Gueldres in 1462 as a memorial to her husband James II. The choir and transepts were completed in 1531. They are renowned for their architectural workmanship. The church was moved to its present site in the 19th century.
