Possible missile

This plain stone ball was found at Buchan in Aberdeenshire. If used as a hammerstone, it could date any time between 8000 BC and 1000 AD. If used as a missile, it probably dates from the 15th or 16th century. A number of plain stone balls have been found at Buchan.

Plain spherical ball from Buchan, Aberdeenshire

Carved stone balls without any decoration are difficult to date or to be certain of their function. Some were used as missiles, while others were used as rubbers or hammerstones.
