Loop with ring
Add to album

This iron loop with a ring for attaching it to woodwork is one of a number found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was used sometime between 80 and 180 AD.

Loops such as these must have been used for a number of purposes. For example, if inserted into roof beams, they could have been used to hang a number of items.

Iron was widely used by the Romans for tools, weapons and fittings. Nails, bolts and fastenings were common finds in pits and on the surface at Newstead.
