Bicycle, Velocar

This racing version of the 'Velocar' recumbent bicycle was made by Charles Mochet in France in 1933. It was a short-lived attempt to reduce drag and achieve greater speeds for cycle racing. Shortly after this the governing body of cycle racing banned their use and although a few road-going versions were produced, the design remained dormant until recent times.

This example uses narrow high pressure 18 inch tyres. Steering is achieved through a shaft and bevel gear arrangement.
