Jug

This maiolica jug was made in Northern Lazio in Italy, possibly in the Viterbo area, between 1300 and 1450. It is entirely reconstructed from pieces that were found, according to the Milanese vendor, 'in houses of Piano Scarano and Canino, small villages near Viterbo'.

The jug is covered with pale grey tin-glaze and is painted in manganese-purple with a monogram and two lozenge-shaped device.
