Drug jar

This maiolica drug jar was made in Italy, possibly at Faenza, in the early 16th century.

The drug jar is painted in blue on crackled white glaze. It is inscribed 'DIA LACHA' ['made from lac']. there is also a apothecary's cipher incorporating a 'P', probably the owner's mark, scratched through a circular dark blue rosette.
