Dish

This maiolica dish was probably made at Urbino in Italy. It dates from around 1570 or later. The scene was copied from an illustrated Ovid's Metamorphosis, first published in 1559.

The dish is painted in polychrome with Adam and Eve after the Fall.

The scene was probably inspired by a woodcut from an earlier illustrated bible.
