Handle

This bronze handle with loops at both ends was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It dates from between 80 and 180 AD.

Loop handle

Excavations at Newstead have revealed much about the layout, daily life and equipment in Roman camps in Scotland. Although organic materials such as wood or leather are less likely to survive, the metal fittings and handles are often preserved.
