Writing desk, by Kenneth Anderson

This wooden writing desk was made by the artist Kenneth Anderson in 1982.

The writing desk is made of silver harewood veneers, inlaid with holly, pearwood and grey harewood. The desk has Bombay rosewood chamfered fore-edges and boxwood stringing. The three drawers are made of solid pencil cedar fronts veneered with silver harewood, ash sides and back, and cedar of Lebanon bottoms.

During the 1980s the Scottish Development Agency purchased a number of hand-crafted items for its Scottish Crafts Collection. The aim of the collection was to inform the public of craft production in Scotland through touring exhibitions and education programmes. When the Scottish Craft Council was wound up, the collection was transferred to the National Museums of Scotland.
