Quilt

This white cotton quilt or 'kantha' worked in coloured cotton thread, dates to around 1900 and comes from Jessore in Bangladesh.

The white quilt is embroidered with cotton threads - red, blue, yellow, orange, black - using single, double running and satin stitches. The quilt depicts men and women in a harvest dance with animals bordering a cruciform chapat game board.

To provide the quilted background the ladies who traditionally worked these kanthas recycled old sari materials.
