Photograph, of lobster creels and fishing nets

This photograph shows lobster creels and fishing nets at the harbour in North Uist, in 1999.

The empty lobster creels are piled up ready for the fishing boats. The fishing nets lie scattered in the foreground.

In North Uist, three generations of the Stewart family have been traditional boat-builders, dedicating their working lives to building a specific type of boat. Many fine examples of their boats survive and can be seen working the islands shores for lobsters and crabs.
