Jug

This stoneware jug is was made at the pottery of A W Buchan & Company at Portobello in Midlothian. It dates from the early 20th century.

The jug is covered with a transparent colourless glaze.

Buchan's Waverley Pottery grew out of 18th-century Portobello potteries. The firm became Murray and Brown in 1867 and by 1882 was called A. W. Buchan & Co. The firm continued at Portobello until 1972 when it moved to Crieff. It is famous for its Portobello thistle ware.
