Add to album

This porcelain teacup and saucer were possibly made at the Verreville Pottery in Glasgow. They date from around 1840.

The fluted sides of the cup and saucer are painted with flower sprays in natural colours and gold.

John Geddes was originally the manager of the Verreville works at Finnieston on the Clyde and between 1806 and 1824, he was the owner. Robert Kidston helped run the pottery from 1827 and took over as sole owner in 1838. The name 'Verreville' means glass town and emphasises that the firm originally produced glass as well as pottery.
