Add to album

This plaster of Paris block and case mould is for a circular dish. It dates from the second half of the 19th century and was used at Belfield's Pottery in Prestonpans in East Lothian.

The mould has two loop handles and a leaf and acorn pattern in relief.

Belfield's Pottery was established by Charles Belfield in the mid-1830s. By the mid-19th century the pottery was employing between 20 and 40 people. The business remained a family concern and continued until the mid-20th century. Belfield's is best known for high quality earthenware, particularly its Rockingham teapots and coffee pots, maiolica ware and everyday kitchen ware.
