Model, of frigate HMS Active

This waterline model represents HMS 'Active', a Type 21 frigate launched in 1972. HMS 'Active' was designed by Vosper Thorneycroft Ltd in collaboration with Yarrow & Co Ltd. The model was made to a scale of 1:64 by Paradigm Models Ltd of Bracknell in Berkshire.

The frigate is powered by gas turbines developed from aero-engines. It has two Rolls-Royce Tyne engines for economical cruising and two Rolls-Royce Olympus engines for high speeds. Her maximum speed is 30 knots.

Type 21 frigates are armed with one 4.5-inch gun, two 20 mm guns, several guided missiles and an armed helicopter. They are 117 metres long and have a displacement of some 2500 tons. HMS 'Active' was commissioned in 1977.
