Model, of figure on 51st (Highland) Division Memorial, Beaumont-Hamel, France

This is a bronze model of the figure on the 51st (Highland) Division Memorial at Beaumont-Hamel in France. The figure was unveiled in 1924. The capture of Beaumont-Hamel ridge, during the battle of the Somme in 1916, was one of the Division's costliest actions.

The granite plinth of the actual memorial bears the Gaelic inscription 'Là a' Bhlàir s'math na Càirdean' ('friends are good on the day of battle').

Models of the figure were presented to all active service units of the 51st (Highland) Division.
