Medals, awarded to Captain Malcolm Henry Somerled McDonald

These medals were awarded to Captain Malcolm Henry Somerled McDonald of the Royal Navy. They date from World War I and II.

The medals include a Distinguished Service Order (on the left) awarded for McDonald's steady direction of fire-fighting aboard HMS Dublin during the battle of Jutland, 1916. After HMS Dublin was hit by enemy shell-fire, McDonald led fire-fighting teams below decks, operating in smoke and darkness. During World War II, McDonald served in the Allied withdrawal from Crete, 1941. The medal on the right is the Greek War Cross.
