Toy centipede

This toy centipede was made as a souvenir in Bangkok in Thailand. It dates from the second half of the 19th century.

This centipede are made from the pith of a palm imported from Chantabun.

Chantabun or Chanthaburi is a province in the south of Thailand. Forests cover about one quarter of the total land area of Thailand and consist mainly of hardwood and resin trees such as bamboo, palm, banyan and rattan.
