Chair

This chair is one of a pair carved by Spencer Boyd, the owner of Penkill Castle in Ayrshire. His initials feature in the decoration together with the date 1857. The top rail is decorated with the Penkill crest.

One of a pair of Victorian oak armchairs, from Penkill Castle, Ayrshire

The two chairs were in use in the Banqueting Hall at Penkill until 1992. Boyd, a talented woodcarver, inherited the Castle in 1857 and set about restoring it. He died in 1865.
