Chair

This chair was acquired in Whithorn in Galloway. The straight arms, decorated at the sides, are characteristic of the south-west of Scotland. The chair dates from the 17th or early 18th century.

The top rail is inscribed 'GR ID / 1710'. This inscription probably records a marriage. The top rail may not be original to the chair, however.
