Cradle

This cradle is of fairly rudimentary construction without posts and with a simple bentwood hood. It is typically Scottish. In use, plaited wool might have been tied across the pegs at each side to hold in the baby underneath.

There are the remains of fabric nailed to the underside of the rockers, intended perhaps to soften the movement or quieten the noise of the cradle in operation.
